About the Author

Anissa Helou, an art hisorian and collector, is the author of Café Morocco, Lebanese Cuisine, which was short-lised for Briain's presigious Andre Simon Award, and The Fifth Quarter. Helou lives in London, where she appears frequently on Briish television and radio, and wries regularly for the Financial Times.

The street food in Istanbul is amazing, and I was excited to get a hold of this cookbook that not only allowed me to recreate those tastes in my own kitchen, but also introduced me to some other great Mediterranean flavors.

With Hilou's instructions, my kitchen has become heavenly with the aromas of cinnamon, fresh tomatos and lemons, garlic, za'tar, rose water and Arabic coffee. Anissa Hilou's cookbook, "Lebanese Cuisine" has long been my favorite and most frequently used cookbook. NOW, I am expanding my kitchen "travels" with "Mediterranean Street Food: Stories, Soups, Snacks, Sandwiches, Barbecues, Sweets and More from Europe, North Africa and the Middle East". This is healthy eating at it's most enjoyable. Shopping for the ingredients is fun, the preparation time and cooking is fulfilling/interesting - people BEG to be invited for dinner! And the leftovers make my fellow office inmates drool. Wonderful book! A wonderful gift for anyone who enjoys the pleasures of fresh food prepared at home.

I bought a copy of her Lebanese cookbook for a friend, since I have used it over the years. Didn't know about this one, so I picked it up on a lark. My dog had to go potty at 2 AM and now it is 5 and all I have been doing is reading and getting hungry. Wish the wars in the middle east would die down so I could experience this food in person, but this is the most sensory thing I have read recently and we have nearly if not over 300 cookbooks. DEFINITELY HIGH ON MY SHORT LIST. WILL BE BUYING FOR CLOSE FRIENDS.
