“Leonard is tops in his field.”
—New Orleans Times-Picayune

The great Elmore Leonard, “Americas pre-eminent crime fiction writer” (Chicago Tribune), takes readers back to Prohibition days in the back hills of Kentucky in a rollicking story of guns, greed, and illegally brewed corn liquor. The Moonshine War is a tale of the chaos that ensues when a gang of city slickers sets out to steal thousands of dollars-worth of homemade whiskey from a hell-raising country boy—who is anything but the easy mark they were expecting. A rediscovered Elmore Leonard classic, The Moonshine War is a wild ride bursting with the authors hallmark delights: the twisty plot, the gripping suspense, the wit and, of course, the razor-sharp dialogue. Its no wonder that the creator of U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens—lately the star of the hit TV series Justified—is always listed among the mystery and crime fiction elite, including John D. MacDonald, Dashiell Hammett, James M. Cain, and Robert Parker, and often at the very top of the list.

Synopsis:

Prohibition is a big headache for some . . . and a big payday for others, the fearless entrepreneurs with little respect for the law of the land. With $125,000 worth of Kentucky's finest homemade whiskey in his possession, big, hell-raising Son Martin counts himself among the latter. Son knows having this much illegal hooch makes him a very tasty target, but nobody's going to steal it from him. Ware may be coming to his backyard, but Son's not worried. Because when it comes to fighting, shooting, and keeping one step ahead of the Big Boys, he's more than good—he's bad . . . and dangerous . . . and deadly.

Synopsis:

Elmore Leonard, nationally bestselling author of Out of Sight, Get Shorty, and Cuba Libre, is at the top of his game with The Moonshine War.

It was Prohibition, and big, hell-raising Son Martin had himself something special: $125,000 worth of Kentucky's finest homemade whisky.

No one was going to steal it. Because when it came to shooting, fighting, and outsmarting the Big Boys, Son Martin wasn't just good. He was bad...dangerous...and deadly.
