DIRE PREDICTIONS: UNDERSTANDING GLOBAL WARMIMG is not a scare polemic or one-sided argument for simple dichotomies or categories. This work is a fact and research-based book made interesting and highly readable for both earth/environmental scientists and non scientists. The common-sensical descriptions, chemical explanations, comparative graphs and data presented are central to understanding the changing global warming patterns from the prehistoric (Paleo-eocene thermal maximum/PETM) period to the present. The anthropological terms are not excessive and complex but contribute to the discussion and analyses.

From the account of analyzing earth core samples through the graphic temperature comparisons to the well supported lessons and findings, the interested reader will have compiled a storehouse of knowledge that will enable one to understand and assess many of the so-called controvresies concerning global warming. I found the rate of change and earth adaptability potential discussion to be compelling. That is, global warming has always been with us but the rate of change in atmospheric carbon dioxide buildup from natural causes to the excessive current levels exhibit the potential to override the earth's capability to adapt as in earlier periods of slower buildups.

Currently, there are so many competing theories, rhetorical arguments, and frankly misleading and apparent political misstatements, this book will provide a valuable template for asking important questions and deciding on alternative courses of action to compensate for warming trends and rates of change. I would have benefited from reading this book when it was first published
