A brilliant talent unique in speculative fiction, multiple Hugo and Nebula winner Octavia Butler is the creator of extraordinary novels that combine the cultural vision of Alice Walker and Terry McMillan with the cosmic scope of Ursula K. Another amazing book by Octavia Butler! I read Wild Seed and was just enthralled, and so sad when I came to the end of it, not because of content, but because I didn't want it to end! Luckily these books are part of a series called the Patternist, and I already had picked up Mind of My Mind, and the story didn't have to end with Wild Seed. I definitely suggest starting with Wild Seed, easily available here at Powell's, because it is the foundation of this world Octavia has written for us. This is speculative fiction at its best in my opinion, because it is not so unbelievable that you find yourself questioning everything, you accept it for the wonderful piece of fiction that it is!
