Publisher Comments:

Norwegian playwright's great verse drama, among the masterpieces of world literature, is a humorous yet profound exploration of the virtues, vices, and follies common to all humanity. Based on Norwegian folklore and Ibsen's own imaginative inventions, the fantqastic adventures of Peer Gynt have delighted general readers and studied by students of literature the world over. Translated by William Archer.

Synopsis:

Among the masterpieces of world literature, this great verse drama by Norway's famed playwright humorously yet profoundly explores the virtues, vices, and follies common to all humanity as it follows the roguish life of a charming but arrogant young man. A literary delight since it was first published in 1875.

About the Author

Only Shakespeare's plays are performed more frequently than those of Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906). The Norwegian playwright, theater director, and poet scandalized many of his contemporaries as he led the theater into the modern era by exploring the realities behind 19th-century social conventions.
