Although a fan of both the Kate Martinelli and Mary Russell series, I still hesitated before picking up Laurie King's newest novel. Could she skillfully blend the two series that are set almost a century apart? The answer is yes. The Art of Detection is not only an exhilarating mystery within a mystery, it is also a wonderful homage to Russell and to Sherlock Holmes. I highly recommend it.
