Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

In 1912, history was changed by the Miracle, when the old world of Europe was replaced by Darwinia, a strange land of nightmarish jungle and antediluvian monsters. To some, the Miracle was an act of divine retribution; to others, it is an opportunity to carve out a new empire.

Leaving an America now ruled by religious fundamentalists, young Guilford Law travels to Darwinia on a mission of discovery that will take him further than he can possibly imagine...to a shattering revelation about mankind's destiny in the universe.

Review:

"Rarely does one find excellent writing or an inspired plot. Here, Wilson has combined both with memorable characters, a dangerous but enticing new world, and a subtle, complex, and marvelously inventive story." VOYA

Review:

"[B]rilliantly imagined." Kirkus Reviews

Review:

"In the best tradition of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Jules Verne, and H. G. Wells....A page-turner." Toronto Globe and Mail

Review:

"Wilson's novel is flawed, perhaps, by its giddy metaphysical interludes, but even so, it is eerie, paranoid, and menacing." Booklist

Darwinia is a book of the 20th century, if the 20th century had been interrupted in 1912 by an event which transformed Europe overnight to a continent filled with an entirely different (and frightening) ecology. The protagonist is one of the few people who has a link to the "other" 20th century, and finds he has a role in preserving the integrity of the universe.
