Synopsis:

The previous release of the Mac operating system (Lion) put all the pieces in place to make the Mac operating system more like the operating systems of the iDevices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch). This was a big paradigm shift. Now that the Mac's new iOS-like operating system is running smoothly, Apple is ready to start adding the iOS-like applications. These applications, such as Reminders, Notes, Notification Center, Game Center, and so on are bundled in the upcoming release of the operating system called Mountain Lion.

This book is aimed at the true beginner and as such presents concepts and features in the easiest-to-understand terms. This book covers the key features of the software including OS X basics, working with the Dock, Launchpad, and Mission Control, setting up your e-mail, surfing the web with Safari, organizing your files, navigating with multi-touch gestures, managing your contacts and calendars, enjoying music, movies, DVDs, and digital photos on your Mac, connecting a printer and printing documents, working with Notes, Reminders, Messages, Share Sheets, and the Notification Center, staying connected with Facebook and Twitter, setting up a network, running Windows on your Mac, staying safe with Gatekeeper, backing up and restoring your system with iCloud, troubleshooting solutions for your Mac, and more.
