Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

A beautifully illustrated picture book by Caldecott and Newbery winner Marguerite de Angeli. A young Amish girl must finish a small hooked mat before she can go to market with her father. In spite of her best efforts, the girl finds that she is much more interested in other events going on around her than finishing the project at hand.

Synopsis:

Lydia, a young Amish girl, must finish a small hooked mat before she can go to market with her father. In spite of her best efforts, Lydia is much more interested in the wagon coming down the road, in the stories that Granny tells, in watching Cousin Lavina make apple butter, and even in chasing Nate's runaway pig. But finally, the roses on Lydia's hooked mat are finished.
