Publisher Comments:

Anthony Bloom on…

The Absence of God

“The fact that God can make Himself present or can leave us with the sense of His absence is part of this live and real relationship.”

Knocking at the Door

“We must stand before God without trying to give Him a shape or to imprison Him in concepts and images, and we must knock at a door.”

Going Inward

“If you are inattentive to the words you pronounce, if your heart does not respond to them, or if your life is not turned in the same direction as your prayer, it will not reach out Godwards.”

Managing Time

“I think we must do exercises in stopping time and in standing in the present, in this ‘now which is my present and which is also the intersection of eternity with time.”

Addressing God

“There will come a moment when the door will open, but then you must have a name for God. You must be able to say a word that shows that it is you who have been in search of Him…”
