Green and Unpleasant Land was gathered from a desire to reimagine some of the stories and events of British legend and a want to write about places that had never been adequately mythologised. Here you will find tales of witchcraft and fairies, ghostly events and future beings, of air aces and heroes of the past, of birthday parties and schoolroom secrets, of lost lands and lost children. There are poems of cities, love and cunning men. There are histories invented and recreated, all set in a country in which The Wicker Man' is less a cult horror film than the everyday story of country folk. These are tales of Britain that touch on the hidden sides of its culture, history, future, geography, mythology and folklore.
