Publisher Comments:

The Alexander Technique for Musicians is a unique guide for all musicians, providing a practical and informative guide to being a successful and comfortable performer. As pressure in the world of professional music grows, musicians increasingly are needing to pay attention to mind-body integration, and to their physical and psychological well-being.

Serving as a resource to supplement training in the area, but also suited to the musician with only a basic knowledge of the Alexander Technique, the topics in this book reflect those that might be covered in one-to-one or group lessons in the discipline. Issues addressed include daily and last-minute practice, breathing, performance and performance anxiety, teacher-pupil relationships, ensemble skills, and instrumental and vocal training in relation to the Alexander Technique.

Supplemented with diagrams and photographs to aid the learning process, as well as step-by-step exercises, and diary entries written by participating students, the book will be made up of tried-and-tested advice, drawn from the authors' twenty-plus years of experience working with aspiring musicians. There are three illustrations per chapter — a mixture of anatomical and procedural images. The book is written with a clarity and hands-on approach that will make this an essential practical handbook for every musician to help them perform to the best of their ability, and steer clear of injury or strain.
