As a long time fan of Bujold's Vorkosigan books, I was looking forward to this story and it did not disappoint. As much as I love her main character, Miles, it was nice to watch Ivan get himself in all sorts of trouble. The backstory was handled well although it was prehaps a bit concise to recommend this book as a starting place for new readers. I really enjoyed the planetary history and politics and the aristocratic skullduggery was fun. Ivan's romantic interest wasn't quite what I expected but she and her bizarre family kept things interesting. Bujold fans who want the "space opera" of earlier works may not be thrilled but I think the characters and story added a wonderful chapter to the saga. And as I think many Bujold readers will say, "Thank God Ivan finally got the girl!"
