Synopsis:

A precise guide for treating more than 150 common illnesses with the stimulation of acupressure points - Provides treatment points for conditions ranging from diabetes and heart problems to insomnia and stage fright - Introduces new acupuncture points discovered by Chinese medical researchers over the past twenty years According to Chinese tradition, there are as many acupoints as there are days in the year. However, as Dr. Roger Dalet explains, systematic study of the skin by Chinese medical researchers since 1988 has made possible the discovery of many new points, a good number of which are included here. Many of these new points address ailments that were not considered problems for practitioners years ago, such as obesity, which in ancient China was considered a sign of wealth but in our modern world is now running rampant in children as a result of poor diets and more sedentary lives. Other health problems have arisen as the result of new technologies, such as the numerous eye conditions exacerbated by our use of computers and reduced exposure to natural sunlight. Some of these new points have been so successful in treatment they have given birth to entire new branches of acupuncture, such as auriculotherapy (points on the ear). In addition to these new points, Dr. Dalet shows that there are also new methods for applying stimulation beyond needles, moxas, and simple manual massage. The most effective new treatment for use outside of clinical situations involves the use of small devices for applying electrical stimulation directly on the points. Illustrated in full color, The Encyclopedia of Healing Points introduces many of these new points in its presentation of effective treatments against more than 150 diseases and disorders--from chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, and heart problems to more minor problems such as tinnitus, insomnia, and stage fright. All of these methods have been adapted for easy personal use both to treat existing conditions and for preventing illnesses like colds and the flu from getting established.
