Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

From ultra-feminine and vintage chic to whimsically colorful and downright oddball, these pincushions redefine the form. And thats sure to attract the many creative sewers and crafters who have chosen these small, charming canvases as the perfect vehicle to showcase fabulous fabric, simple embellishments, and novel ideas. Nearly 30 projects from a pool of talented designers provide plenty of inspiration, and theres information on materials and adornments, stuffing options, and what makes a successful, functional pincushion. All thats needed are beginning hand-sewing skills to stitch up such unique creations as tiny flowerpot and ladybug pincushions made from a bottle-cap base; a beehive complete with honey bee-topped pins; a selection of heirloom pincushions with vintage trim, lace, and buttons; or elegant silk fruit suited to a centerpiece as much as a sewing basket. Still others, like a tropical fish, a pair of cacti, or a crazy striped rooster, can double as plushy toys without the pins.

A Selection of the Crafters Choice Book Club.

When you need to have mundane objects around, like pincusions, you may as well make them pretty! There are lots of styles: flowers, eyeballs, animals, the classic canning lid pincusion, a little of everything. Beginning sewers as well as accomplished needleworkers will find something to their liking. It's from Lark Books, so you know the patterns will be reliable.

I love this book! I just received it 4 days ago and I have already completed 10 little pin cushions. It has lovely photography and the instructions are simply and clearly written. I have been having a lot of fun with the bottle cap pin cushions, especially the eyeballs! I work in Middle School and the students get a kick out of them. The projects will be great to do with children and beginner sewers as they for the most part can be done with simple hand sewing and many with recycled items keeping your supply costs down. Cheers!
