Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Hot air engines, often called Stirling engines, are among the most interesting and intriguing engines ever to be designed. They run on just about any fuel, from salad oil and hydrogen to solar and geothermal energy. They produce a rotary motion that can be used to power anything, from boats and buggies to fridges and fans. This book demonstrates how to design, build, and optimise Stirling engines. A broad selection of Roys engines is described, giving a valuable insight into the many different types and a great deal of information relating to the home manufacture of these engines is included in the workshop section.

Synopsis:

An essential reference to engineers and hobbyists and an insight into designing and building hot air engines.

If you have any intention of building Stirling engines, this is a must-have book.

Roy's work has been showcased in other books, but here is info on the in-and-outs of making your own, covering things such as meterial selection and compatablity, machining and assembly tips and tricks, and a section explaining the art of making leather pump washers as needed for some of these engines.

Well worth the money spent, and if you were limeted to one book, this would be the one to get and work with and from, too!
