These are only a few of the myriad topics covered by Vermont Humanities Council Director Peter Gilbert in I Was Thinking...: Travels in the World of Ideas. The volume includes over sixty lively commentaries on history and literature that range in scope from Shakespeare to smartphones. Gilbert adapted the contents of I Was Thinking... from his monthly commentaries on the humanities initially broadcast on Vermont Public Radio. I Was Thinking... is a smorgasbord of intellectual hors d'oeuvres. In each commentary, Gilbert examines current and past events from a humanities perspective, and urges readers on in their quest to make order and meaning out of their increasingly busy lives.
