Publisher Comments:

Though legally blind, Paul Fisher can see what others cannot. He can see that his parents' constant praise of his brother, Erik, the football star, is to cover up something that is terribly wrong. But no one listens to Paul--until his family moves to Tangerine. In this Florida town, weird is normal: Lightning strikes at the same time every day, a sinkhole swallows a local school, and Paul the geek finds himself adopted into the toughest group around: the soccer team at his middle school.

Maybe this new start in Tangerine will help Paul finally see the truth about his past--and will give him the courage to face up to his terrifying older brother.

Includes a reader's guide and an afterword by the author.

Tangerine By: Edward Bloor

Tangerine, this book describes the life of a teen-age boy named Paul, after his family moved to Florida. He played soccer, and he was a very good goalie. This book tells about his struggles to fit in, and still deal with his insane brother, Erik. In my opinion, this was a very boring book because there was never anything I found to be interesting happening. There were no entertaining actions going on, and it was all about feelings and emotions. Also there were too many descriptions that made the book seem like it was dragging on.

Flawless prose-- this is a novel that can be enjoyed by both parents and adolescents together. The story explores so many issues important to adolescents: alienation, coming of age, racism, classism, stereo-types, etc.; few won't be pulled in. It does start out a little slow but stick w/ it. The plot really picks up in the end. It’s difficult to find many books aimed at this age group that equally appeal to both males and females and this one definitely does it.
