Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

This is a completely updated edition of the 1983 classic that introduced a powerful method for gaining freedom from self-defeating behaviors and beliefs. Rick Carson, creator of the renowned Gremlin-Tamingâ„¢Method, has revised the book to include fresh interactive activities, real-life vignettes we can all identify with, and new loathsome gremlins ripe for taming. Carson blends his laid-back style, Taoist wisdom, the Zen Theory of Change, and sound psychology in an easy-to-understand, unique, and practical system for banishing the nemesis within. Among the things you will learn are:
  • Techniques for getting a sliver of light between the natural you and the monster of your mind.
  • The extraordinary power of simply noticing and playing with options.
  • Six keys to maintaining emotional balance amid upheaval.

Synopsis:

Your gremlin interprets your every experience. He has nothing good to say about you or anything you do. Just when you feel you've out-argued him, he changes his strategy. Grapple with him and you become more enmeshed. What he hates is simply being noticed. That's the first step to his taming. This and many other powerful techniques await you in Taming Your Gremlin: A Guide to Enjoying Yourself.

Rick Carson literally wrote the book on gremlin-taming 20 years ago. Now he revises this classic to include more interactive exercises and techniques he has used successfully with corporate and individual clients at his renowned Gremlin Taming Institute. This is a low-key but tremendously effective approach to banishing the tenacious nemesis within. Readers will learn:
-- How simply noticing their gremlin is the first step in gremlin taming
-- How to experiment playfully with new actions and attitudes
-- Simple exercises for tuning in to their true self and tuning out their gremlin...and much more.

What a playful way to approach a serious subject! And, that's point, actually. Sometimes, the only approach is a playful one. Richard Carson leads by example, showing the way, in this delightful book. A great gift book idea. I mean, who do you know who doesn't have a gremlin, or two?

While I may not agree with all of his conclusions about gremlins, Carson provides great tools and perspectives for working with the ones we've got. The tone can be a bit precious, but there is a lot of good packed in this thin volume.
