My mother read this book to me when I was eight and bedfast with a long term illness. It helped me escape the loneliness and desolation of being unable to play with other children and explore the world on my own two feet. Heidi was my friend and a friend worth having. Her adventures on the mountain side became my world. That was sixty years ago and the memory still warms my heart.
