As a small boy at Joe Gargery's forge, Pip meets two people who will affect his whole lifeÑan escaped convict he is forced to help, and the eccentric Miss Havisham, whose beautiful, cold ward Estella young Pip adores. But when a secret benefactor pays for him to go to London to become a gentleman, Pip never dreams he will meet the dreadful convict Magwitch again, nor just how wrong his expectations are . . .

Great Expectations was the first Dickens book I read. I loved the way he built the characters and intertwined all of the relationships. It was a well-built novel and has led me into other Dickens books as well. The surprise ending was very heartfelt for me.

I recommend this books to every type of reader out there -- everybody who reads this book will enjoy it. The action starts on the very first page, when young Pip is attacked by a villain. From there on, you will find entertainment and wisdom as Pip grows up to become a gentleman. Highly recommended.
