Half Magic Cover

I love this story. Four children (one brother and three sisters) find a magic coin. They don't initially understand the coin's special properties or how to use it without causing unwanted mayhem — since only half of a wish comes true when wished in the coin's presence. Follow the adventures that the children have once they figure out how to use their coin.

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Edward Eager's hilarious and heartwarming Half Magic has been working wizardry on young readers for fifty years. To celebrate the golden anniversary of this enduringly popular story, a deluxe edition of the book has been created. It features the original jacket, a ribbon marker, two-color printing, and a new introduction by Jack Gantos, the award-winning author of Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key.

Review:

"Fans of Half Magic by Edward Eager, illus. by N.M. Bodecker, can rejoin Jane, Mark, Katharine and Martha and their magical wish-granting coin in celebration of a half-century of Half Magic. This 50th-anniversary edition features a special green ribbon place-marker that matches the enchanting green-ink drawings." Publishers Weekly (Copyright Reed Business Information, Inc.)

Review:

"This old-fashioned story will be enjoyed by today's young readers. Kids have always loved magic and make-believe and this book gives them a chance to experience both." Children's Literature

Review:

"Jane finds a magic charm which grants half of any wish, and her brother and sisters take turns making double wishes, leading to strange happenings — which leads Jane to make a last wish." Library Jounral

Synopsis:

Half Magic is half-a-century old--and as much antic fun as ever!

Synopsis:

Since Half Magic first hit bookshelves in 1954, Edward Eagers tales of magic have become beloved classics. Now four cherished stories by Edward Eager about vacationing cousins who stumble into magical doings and whimsical adventures are available in updated hardcover and paperback formats. The original lively illustrations by N. M. Bodecker have been retained, but eye-catching new cover art by Kate Greenaway Medalist Quentin Blake gives these classics a fresh, contemporary look for a whole new generation.
