Life as We Knew It Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Miranda’s disbelief turns to fear in a split second when an asteroid knocks the moon closer to the earth. How should her family prepare for the future when worldwide tsunamis wipe out the coasts, earthquakes rock the continents, and volcanic ash blocks out the sun? As summer turns to Arctic winter, Miranda, her two brothers, and their mother retreat to the unexpected safe haven of their sunroom, where they subsist on stockpiled food and limited water in the warmth of a wood-burning stove. In her journal, Miranda records the events of each desperate day, while she and her family struggle to hold on to their most priceless resource--hope.

Includes a teaser to the companion novel, The Dead and the Gone.

Synopsis:

When a meteor hits the Moon, Miranda must learn to survive the unimaginable. Told in journal entries, this heart-pounding story chronicles Miranda's struggle to hold on to the most important resource of all--hope--in an increasingly desperate and unfamiliar world.

A teenage girl might not care if the biggest astronomical event of the century is about to take place, but she cannot ignore what happens to her family and to the rest of the world once a meteorite changes the Moon's orbit. This story kept me glued to its pages and I recommended it to several of my co-workers, who also found it to be an engaging and suspenseful book. Take this one home for the weekend and get ready for an adventure into a not-so-pleasant future.

I apologize, but this book was just plain bad. The plot lacked any hint of originality, and the writing style was abominable. The characters lacked solidarity and the entire book seemed quite stupid. However, I dont want to be a downer, so I will add that the book does have a nice cover. Unfortunately the copy I read had a much uglier cover. Sometimes, life is just plain cruel.
