Publisher Comments:

In Six Years, a masterpiece of modern suspense, Harlan Coben explores the depth and passion of lost love…and the secrets and lies at its heart.

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd.

But six years havent come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todds obituary, he cant keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todds wife hes hoping for…but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, shes been married to Todd for almost two decades, and with that fact everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life—a time he has never gotten over—is turned completely inside out.

As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either cant be found, or dont remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jakes search for the woman who broke his heart, who lied to him, soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on a carefully constructed fiction.

Harlan Coben once again delivers a shocking page-turner that deftly explores the power of past love, and the secrets and lies that such love can hide.

And look for MISSING YOU, the new novel coming from Harlan Coben in hardcover and ebook in March.

Review:

"In this lean, crisp thriller — a zipping Jaguar of a ride — from bestseller Finder (Powerplay), author Danny Goodman is having a tough time dealing with the tuition and administrators at Lyman Academy, his daughter Abby's tony Boston day school. Then, because Abby is the sole friend of awkward loner Jenna Galvin, Jenna's father, the nouveau riche Thomas Galvin, generously supplies a crucial $50,000 to tide the Goodmans over. Goodman soon learns this cash comes with a price. Two FBI agents claim Galvin is an American operative for Mexico's brutal Sinaloa drug cartel. They bully Goodman into turning mole, planting wires in Galvin's Boston-area estate, and eavesdropping at his ski lodge in Aspen. Goodman faces jail time and whopping fines if he displeases the Feds; but if he tips off the cartel, he could be killed. The plot turns — three major ones — are as shocking as they are believable. Finder has a satirist's sense when discussing teen snobbery and the exurban rat race, and his spare, laminated style is several cuts above that of most thrillers. His characters are nuanced; especially compelling is the Mexican doctor who aids the poor by day and moonlights as a murderer — dispatching cartel foes with faux natural causes. When single father Danny Goodman suddenly finds himself unable to afford the private school his teenage daughter adores, he has no one to turn to for financial support.

In what seems like a stroke of brilliant luck, Danny meets Thomas Galvin, the father of his daughter’s new best friend, who also happens to be one of the wealthiest men in Boston. Galvin is aware of Danny’s situation and out of the blue offers a $50,000 loan to help Danny cover his daughter’s tuition. Uncomfortable but desperate, Danny takes the money, promising to pay Galvin back.

What transpires is something Danny never imagined. The moment the money is wired into his account, the DEA comes knocking on his door. Danny’s impossible choice: an indictment for accepting drug money that he can’t afford to fight in court, or an unthinkably treacherous undercover assignment helping the government get close to his new family friend.

As Danny begins to lie to everyone in his life, including those he loves most in the world, he must decide once and for all who the real enemy is or risk losing everything - and everyone - that matters to him.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

This is my first book by Joseph Finder but it definitely won’t be my last. I have wanted to read his books for some time so when NetGalley offered this book I jumped at it.

The author quickly engages the reader into Danny’s life as he stretched to his limits with no help in sight until he meets the father of his daughter’s new best friend. When the man offers him a loan and he accepts things start to careen out of control. I couldn’t have put down this book if I wanted to. The author proceeds to take us on a wild ride without giving us much time to catch our breath. My heart was just pounding as the pages kept turning.

Danny’s relationship with his daughter, Abby, was a struggle in itself. She had lost her mother and feels betrayed that the true story of her mother’s illness was kept from her. Danny tries to keep things as normal as possible including continuing her education as this pricey school. While I felt for Abby I was also disappointed in her. She knew money was tight, yet she tried to pull off the little rich girl persona with her friend Jenna. She spent so much time at Jenna’s and never would think of inviting Jenna to her home as that would bring out her lies. Her character was really fleshed out but it was really hard to like her and made me feel even more compassion for Danny.

There are some crazy twists in this thriller that really turned the story on its ear. One had me saying “Oh My God”! That being said I can truly understand why Finder’s stories are being made into movies. This story would make a great movie!

If you like the mysteries of Harlan Coben you will love Suspicion. I will be adding the rest of Joseph Finder’s book to my wish list right away!!

This review is for a pre-release copy.
This is the latest stand alone novel by the author. There is an old expression, "Beware of strangers bearing gifts." Danny Goodman is a struggling author, behind schedule on writing a book for which he has already spent the cash advance from the publisher. He is behind on paying the tuitions for his daughter's private school ($16,000 per semester). He is being threatened by a bill collector who wants to garnishee his wages (what wages? - he is a starving writer). But his daughter has a best friend at school (BFF), and the somewhat mysterious father of the friend gives him $50,000 to get his head above water. But whom is he cutting a deal with? A couple men show up saying he has accepted dirty money, and could be in a lot of trouble.

Danny finds himself being drawn deeper into a quagmire. Some people want him to work against his new friend, and the new friend wants to offer additional enticements. A ski trop to Aspen? Why not? His daughter is thrilled. But along the way people start showing up dead - gruesomely murdered. Danny starts having trouble with his girlfriend and his daughter. He is looking for a way out of the quagmire, but Danny grew up in a family where his father was a contractor who built things with some demolition work on the side. Danny has a few unexpected skills.

There are many surprises as the novels winds towards a conclusion. Not everything is as it seems.
