Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Fascinating facts, "travel tips," intriguing pictures, and maps combine to take young explorers on a time-traveling tour of the ancient world of the Bible and its people

Drawing the reader into foreign lands and epic journeys, from the beginning of time itself, this book offers a tourist's-eye view of the people and empires that provided the setting for the Bible's great stories. Each stop on the journey allows young readers to learn about the people and events associated with that place as well as offering astonishing glimpses of what archaeologists have uncovered. "Travel tips" offer useful information for the time-traveling journey—what food and weather to expect, where to stay, what sort of festivals might be happening, and what souvenirs are worth looking out for! This enjoyable reference work full of stylish and expertly researched illustrations and numerous photographs, maps, and diagrams offers a fresh, non-fiction approach to the Bible.

Review:

"The stories of the Bible — from Adam and Eve to the resurrection of Jesus — are envisioned as 20 journeys in this primer that puts the events in geographical and historical context. In addition to the accessible main text, 'travel tips' play up the travel theme ('The hills of Galilee are at their best in spring, when the wild flowers are in bloom'), and fairly institutional cartoon artwork (complete with labels) portrays Jerusalem, Babylon, Nazareth, and other locations. No biblical quotes appear (nor do the names of any of the books from either testament); rather, this is a basic overview of key events. Ages 7 — 12. (Apr.)" Publishers Weekly Copyright PWxyz, LLC.
