No-Sew Love: 50 Fun Projects to Make Without a Needle and Threadby Ashley Johnston
Synopses & Reviews
Although Ashley Johnston is comfortable with a needle and threadand#151;and really enjoys making handmade items for her children and homeand#151;she could certainly understand that sewing machines can strike fear and dread into the hearts of many crafters. The complicated machinery with the fussy parts as well as confusing pattern directions send many people running from any craft that requires sewing. No-Sew Love is filled with ideas for the non-sewing crafter or for the more casual sewist who would rather not haul out the sewing machine for a quick project. Materials all easily found at craft and fabric storesand#151;hem tape, fusible webbing, a variety of glues, and of course, fabricand#151;are all you need to whip up the 50 no-sew wonders in the book. There are throw pillows, grommet curtain panels, cute kids' clothing, holiday decorations, and even accessories for you! Projects are photographed at each step for crystal-clear directions, and sure-to-please results.
"Time to stock up on double-sided fusible adhesive tape! It's the solution to all of a non-sewist's sewing needs, according to the author, writing her first crafting book. The creator of the popular Make It & Love It blog, she presents 50 no-sew ideas, all scrupulously — and impressively — illustrated with step-by-step photos, after a helpful introduction. In general, her non-clothing ideas are the best, whether she suggests making grommet curtain panels, a pretty fabric mobile of circular motifs, or fabric scrap eggs for Easter and spring celebrations. The clothing, on the other hand, looks fine in the appealing photos, but often involves laborious steps of gluing and matching fabric to create a product that simply won't be as sturdy as it would be if it was sewn; a 'basic skirt,' for example, requires 20 separate steps to complete. Even the author advises that sewists 'consider items made with fusible adhesive more like specialty items... not ‘everyday' clothing.' For sewing-averse, this might prove to be a treasure trove, but most crafters will find only a pattern or two worth trying out. Full-color photos. (Aug.) " Publishers Weekly Copyright PWxyz, LLC. Though Ashley Johnston is comfortable with a needle and thread, having grown up with four sisters who wore clothes homemade by their mother, she began to hear from her blog readers that sewing machines can strike fear and dread into the hearts of many crafters. The complicated machinery, the fussy parts, and confusing pattern directions send many people running from crafts that require sewing. Ashley knows her adhesives, including fusible webbing, glue guns, binding tape, and more, and designed 50 projects that ordinarily require sewing to complete: but in NO-SEW LOVE, they're improved for the more casual, non-sewing crafter.
There are throw pillows, grommet curtain panels, kids' clothing, cute holiday decorations, and even accessories for you! Projects are photographed at each step for crystal-clear directions, and they're all given a crafting level of beginner to advanced, for simplified outcomes. Get your no-sew on today!
