Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

In the newest addition to the successful “Living With” series, Hathaway and Schatz let readers in on everything they need to know about how to raise one - or twenty - goats in their own backyards. Readers will discover how to raise goats either for milk, meat, or companionship, and how to shelter and care for their pets depending on the breed (whether theyre eventually going to eat them or invite them into their family circle). Between the friendly advice, first-hand wisdom, and hilarious stories, Living With Goats reassures readers that raising goats is a rewarding and sustainable endeavor well worth their while.

Synopsis:

Further in our “Living With” series, Living with Goats tells readers all they need to know to raise a goat or two (or 20) in their backyards. There are chapters on breed characteristics, raising goats for milk or meat, shelter requirements, how to prevent injury and illness, goats as pets, and much more. Full of friendly advice, homespun wisdom, and entertaining anecdotes, the book reassures the reader how easy and how rewarding it is to raise goats. The book appeals to armchair farmers, hobby farmers, do-it-yourselfers, and those who already own a few goats. The book features more than 80 charming photos by Karl Schatz.

About the Author

Margaret Hathaway and Karl Schatz live with their family on Ten Apple Farm, a homestead in southern Maine, where they raise dairy goats and poultry, tend a large garden and small orchard, make cheese, and give occasional workshops on basic homesteading skills. When not farming, Karl is the director of Aurora Photos, an international stock photography agency. The couples previous book, The Year of the Goat, is a memoir that chronicles their journey from their lives in New York City to their home on the farm.
