The Art of War: The Definitive Interpretation of Sun Tzu's Classic Book of Strategy for the Martial Artist Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

The Art of War by Sun Tzu is the best known and most highly regarded book on martial strategy ever written. Although its wisdom is from ancient China, its principles and advice are timeless—as applicable today on the battlefield as in the boardroom or the bedroom.

Thirteen chapters present incisive strategies explaining how to overcome and defeat any foe—starting with an honest assessment of your own strengths and those of your opponents, followed by valuable advice on how to outfox and outwit stronger enemies through the use of clever deception, espionage, alliances and deflection—and the ability to turn your weaknesses into strengths.

Author Hanshi Steve Kaufman is widely acknowledged as the "Founding Father" of American Karate and his interpretation of this classic work is specifically intended for practicing martial artists and warriors. Kaufman packs the power of the original text into a straightforward narrative without the jargon or artifice of all the more academic versions of this ancient work.

Synopsis:

Sun Tzu's Art of War is perhaps the best-known and most highly regarded treatise on strategy yet written. Compiled well over two thousand years ago, its principles are as applicable to the boardroom as they are to the battlefield. Unlike contemporary translations that have focussed too heavily on applying this military classic to corporate conflicts, this definitive interpretation maintains the impact of the original. Written by a practicing martial artist, it is free of academic commentary and ambiguous metaphors, as Hanshi Kaufman uses straightforward prose to explain Sun Tzu's message. Like the original, this new interpretation is divided into thirteen sections, each presenting vital information on military strategy ranging from assessing opposing armies to proper treatment of troops to the use of spies. Whether you are a student of the martial arts or a corporate warrior, this book will enable you to fully comprehend Sun Tzu's powerful words.
