New big books to share with a group!

Big books are ideal for use with a large group--they are oversized at 14-1/2 x 18 inches. A perfect way to enjoy Holt favorites with many children at once!

Here Are My Hands features children of many different backgrounds and invites young readers to respond creatively as they learn the parts of the body.

Also available in big book format:

The Colors of Us
By Karen Katz

In the Small, Small Pond
By Denise Fleming

Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See?
By Bill Martin Jr, illustrated by Eric Carle

Synopsis:

A simple picture book that is meant to be read aloud and acted out by very young children. The rhyming text, which deals with parts of the body, invites children to respond spontaneously and creatively. And by featuring children of different races, it quietly celebrates the universality of people around the world.

Synopsis:

Ideally suited to the board-book format, Here Are My Hands invites very young children to respond spontaneously and creatively as they learn the parts of the body. The rhyming text and bold illustrations do more than name the eyes, ears, nose, and toes. By featuring children of many different backgrounds, the book quietly celebrates the commonality of people around the world.

About the Author

Jennifer Starkman, July 7, 2007 (view all comments by Jennifer Starkman)
From the writing duo that brought us the infectious Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Here Are My Hands is another wonderful book for parents to share with babies and toddlers. Simple rhymes about parts of the body are easy to turn into a game parents can play with babies, or that toddlers can act out as they listen.
Here Are My Hands also stands out in that, unlike some other books with a similar ?body parts? theme, Martin and Archambault include a few more thought-provoking ideas that will still speak to the experiences of very young children (?Here is my head for thinking and knowing,? ?Here are my eyes for seeing and crying?).
Ted Rand?s densely coloured, smudgy drawings of different children demonstrating the rhymes, done in watercolour but reminiscent of crayons or pastels, make this a beautiful book for sharing with the youngest members of your family.
