Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Award-winning photographer Tim Flach has spent years inquiring into the essential bond we have with animals. Now he presents the culmination of a career-long endeavor, an extraordinary body of work in which each image is more striking and powerful than the last.

Just as did Flachandrsquo;s highly acclaimed previous books, Equus and Dogs, More than Human will amaze and inspire, in a constant affirmation of the animal, whether it be rare or common, powerful or defenseless, odd or majestic. The book showcases a menagerie of creaturesandmdash;pandas, tigers, bats, lions, orangutans, cobras, bullfrogs, chimpanzees, wolves, porcupines, elephants, owls, armadillos, among many othersandmdash;as they have never been seen before. Shedding light on Flachandrsquo;s images will be an accessible collection of texts, written and edited by author Lewis Blackwell.

Praise for More Than Human:

andldquo;A gallery of animal portraits that are unlike anything weandrsquo;ve seen before.andrdquo; andmdash; The Wall Street Journal

andldquo; His technique is impeccable; this is one of the most gorgeous photography books of the year. But what makes it more than a coffee-table trifle is the way Flachandrsquo;s images connect usandmdash;with near-tactile sensation and soulfulnessandmdash;to the creatures on display.andrdquo; andmdash;NPR.org

andldquo;Arresting portraits that express photographer Flachandrsquo;s andlsquo;sense of wonderment in nature.andrsquo;andrdquo; andmdash;People

andquot;Astoundingly sharp images.andquot; - The San Francisco Chronicle

andldquo;Compelling and unexpected.andrdquo; andmdash;The Denver Post

andldquo;Treat yourself to the full glory of More Than Human, for the screen hardly does it justice.andrdquo; andmdash;Brain Pickings.com

andldquo;A book of animal photographs guaranteed to dazzle viewers with their color, detail, clarity and, most of all, their uncanny andlsquo;humanity.andrsquo;andrdquo;-- BookPage

Synopsis:

No animal has captured the human imagination quite like the horse, depicted in cave drawings thousands of years ago through countless renderings in paint, clay, ink, even film. Award-winning photographer Tim Flachandrsquo;s quest to document the horse has resulted in Equus, an intensely moving look at an animalandmdash;as solitary subject and en masse, from the air and from underwaterandmdash;whose history is so powerfully linked to our own. This highly successful book, originally published in 2008, is now available in a new, more affordable format. Equus provides an amazing and unique insight into the physical dynamics and spirit of the horse.
