Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Fifty years ago, one of the fi rst true business jetsandmdash;the Dassault Mystandegrave;re/Falcon 20andmdash;took flight. Since then, 20 innovative models have followed, each with the same sleek lines, smooth handling, and peerless reliability and efficiency displayed by that first Falcon. Today there are more than 1,500 Dassault Falcon jets flying in the U.S. Published to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Falcon 20, designed under the leadership of company founder Marcel Dassault with the help of Charles Lindbergh and Juan Trippeandmdash;two other aviation visionariesandmdash;this richly illustrated book tells the story of this legendary plane and the remarkable models that followed. Technical know-how, quality of flight, exceptional aerodynamics, luxury, and comfortandmdash;the Falcon stands as a coveted aircraft that has earned a privileged place in aviation history.

Book News Annotation:

Each plane is shown by itself on a white page, most from below; a few images occupy multiple pages afforded by foldouts, and a few are shown from the side. These color photos by Milstein, showcased in an oversize format (12.5x12.5"), are motivated by his love of their design. A two-page chart identifies each craft and some of its specifications. Walter J. Boyne, former director of the National Air and Space Museum, Washington, D.C. wrote the foreword, and that's the only text. Annotation ©2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Synopsis:

Often it takes an artist to show us that the familiar is in fact truly remarkable. Jeffrey Milsteins elegant photographs of commercial airliners have quickly become contemporary icons, published in 2005 in "photomagazin, Graphis Photo Annual," and "American Photography 21," and winning first place in the PDN Digital Photography Contest. Milsteins meticulously composed large-format photos of airliners in flight reveal the beauty and power of these sleek, complex machines and restores some of the glamour to the experience of air travel. An eloquent foreword by Walter J. Boyne helps the reader appreciate these amazing technological wonders, and the book gives technical data on each airplane pictured. Not just for the aviation buffs but for anyone who appreciates the sublime beauty possible in even the most complex technology.
