Book News Annotation:

The War Resisters League was founded in 1923 by socialist pacifist Jessie Wallace Hughan and grew to become one of the most important secular absolute pacifist organizations opposing war. In his history of the origins and activities of the League, Bennett (history, Georgian Court College) argues that the organization managed evolved from a single-issue concentration on war towards a multi-issue Ghandian organization advocating for social justice. It further came to articulate a realistic, radically alternative vision of American society that served to challenge both mainstream American politics and the traditional Left.
