Financing Energy Efficiency: Lessons from Brazil, China, India, and Beyond Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

While energy efficiency projects could partly meet new energy demand more cheaply than new supplies, weak economic institutions in developing and transitional economies impede developing and financing energy efficiency retrofits. This book analyzes these difficulties, suggests a 3-part model for projectizing and financing energy efficiency retrofits, and presents thirteen case studies to illustrate the issues and principles involved.

Book News Annotation:

The five authors, who are experts in the field of energy management, were recruited by the World Bank to write this study on achieving energy efficiency in developing nations. Examples are drawn from Brazil, India and China to illustrate global and regional achievements in reducing greenhouse gases and other energy efficiency projects, and how these sometimes massive undertaking are financed by both governments and private interests. Written primarily for policymakers and financial institutions who undertake such projects, this book underlines the somewhat limited global consensus on effective energy programs, and how to motivate innovations in the future.
