Inhaler Devices: Fundamentals, Design and Drug Delivery (Woodhead Publishing Series in Biomaterials)by Polina Prokopovich.
Synopses & Reviews
Given their direct impact on the health and quality of life for millions of people, inhalers represent a major turning point in the history of modern medicine. The editor and contributors provide an introduction to the fundamentals of inhaler technology, with a comprehensive discussion of the history of inhalers as well as a summary of current research and development. Chapters in part two cover the recent developments in drug formulations and nanotechnology, as they relate to inhaler devices.
Inhaler devices are vital to the well-being of numerous asthma sufferers and are therefore continually being developed and improved. The contributors discuss the history of inhalers and discuss the research and development of these devices. Chapters look at the fundamentals of the in vitro environment and design of inhaler devices and review a wide variety of nanomaterials for drug delivery through inhalers.
About the Author
Polina Prokopovich is Cardiff Academic Fellow at Cardiff University's Welsh School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, UK. Her research interests are in discovering surface modification techniques to improve wear performance and biocompatibility of materials for arthroplasty, the formulation and mechanics of drug delivery devices and the phenomena of adhesion and bioadhesion.
