Harvard University professor Twersky's fine one volume Maimonides Reader is an excellent introduction to this giant of halacha {Jewish law] and philosophy who wrote in Arabic and Hebrew. Utilizing prior scholarly translations, Rabbi Twersky introduces and offers choice selections [with brief notes] from: thirteen of the fourteen books of the Mishneh Torah [the bulk of this volume], all three parts of the Guide to the Perplexed, the Commentary on the Mishnah [tractates Avot and Sanhedrin], the Book of Commandments, and correspondence with scholars and laymen throughout the world. It includes suggestions for further reading in English and an index.
