Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Edmond Rostand's bittersweet melodrama tells the tale of France's master swordsman--Cyrano de Bergerac, a valiant soldier cursed with the face of a clown. Gallantry, love, poetry, and failure all combine in this timeless classic, further enhanced by Kyle Baker's captivating illustrations.

I encountered this translation by Brian Hooker when I was a young man and had no experience of romantic love. The work stunned me. The passion of Cyrano is palpable and his passion for his honor is no less real.

The images of the book have never left me. I am sixty-eight years old and still recall the line: " ... .. like a bell ringing in my heart, Roxanne." No one could question Cyrano's passion for Roxanne. Nor could anyone question his honor: "My white plume... .." All who did, suffered humiliation and the point of Cyrano's epee.

Please read this book. This book should never be off bookstore shelves or only available as musty, or used.
