Publisher Comments:

Despite all the airtime devoted to Amanda Knox, it’s still hard to reconcile the fresh-faced honor student from Seattle with the sexually rapacious killer convicted of the November 2007 murder of her British roommate. Few Americans have heard all of the powerful evidence that convinced a jury that Knox was one of three people to sexually assault Meredith Kercher, brutalize her body, and cut her throat. In Angel Face, Rome-based Daily Beast senior writer Barbie Latza Nadeau – who cultivated personal relationships with the key figures in both the prosecution and the defense – describes how the Knox family’s heavy-handed efforts to control media coverage distorted the facts, inflamed an American audience, and painted an offensive, inaccurate picture of Italy’s justice system. An eye-opener for any parent considering sending a child away to study, Angel Face reveals what really went on in this incomprehensible crime.

About the Author

As a senior writer for The Daily Beast, Barbie Latza Nadeau provided weekly reports on the Amanda Knox case and trial throughout 2008 and 2009. She is also a regular contributor to Newsweek and a frequent commentator on CNN and the BBC. A fourteen-year resident of Rome, she has reported from Italy on everything from natural disasters to papal investitures.

The most important thing to know is you don't need to buy this book. My friend made that mistake, and was shocked. I borrowed it, and found out why -
it is unbelievably short, barely 200 pages with very large letters. like a children's book.

You can easily go into Borders or Barns & Noble and read it in an hour. That being said, it does cover the basics. If you know nothing about the tragic murder of Meredith Kercher, this is a decent start. You can get the same info from newspaper articles and websites , but this summarizes it succinctly.

As the title reveals, Nadeau is less than objective. She covers the prosecution's case verbatim, leaving out the other side. Barbie spends a lot of time gossiping about hanging out and schmoozing with the principle characters, if you like that sort of thing.

Even for those of you reading between the lines, this booklet is very, very short - a super-quick one-sided read.

The Amanda Knox trial was fraught with controversy and this biased book does nothing to improve the public's understanding of the case.

Barbie Latza Nadeau covered the case for both Newsweek and the Daily Beast and is quick to point out that unlike other journalists she attended all but two court sessions. She complains that readers in the US never got the full story which begs the question: Didn't she have the opportunity to tell it in the 20 odd articles she wrote about the case?

Has anyone here ever heard of two people who commit a murder, go to sleep, and wake up the next morning with no memory of it? That's what Barbie thinks happened. Has anyone ever heard of a rape of a young woman by a stranger that was instigated by a female college roommate? That's what Barbie thinks happened. She accepts without independent corroboration anything and everything Italian investigators tell her about the case even though their work has been the subject of unprecedented international condemnation.

For educated people the debate about this case ended long ago. The trial was a modern day witch hunt fully supported by two European nations. In time the general public will come to better understand the truth about the case. The historical judgment about Barbie Latza Nadeau's contribution will be harsh indeed.

I remember hearing about this case when I was at school. A good friend of mine from Seattle knew the girl at the heart of this murder. I heard stories about her and was glued to the tv and internet for information. After following the case and reading articles in American papers and articles from the BBC, I found this book. I picked it up and it was amazing.
The author was there in Italy had a front row seat to how everything happened. She did a good job at presenting both sides and letting the reader decided if justice was served or not.
One thing the author reminds the reader of is that it was all done under Italian Law. Something a lot of people tend to forget.
If you are interested in true crime or the whole story on this one, then I would strongly suggest that you read this book. Very good and very insightful.
