Synopsis:

Case Conceptualization and Treatment Planning, Second Edition is a core textbook that teaches students in counseling, psychotherapy, and clinical psychology how to formulate a treatment plan that is integrated with theory and personalized to each client. Case conceptualization is the process of providing a theoretical explanation for what the client is like/experiencing and why they are like this. In order to do this, a student must draw from a variety of theoretical approaches. The treatment plan is the method/plan a therapist formulates in order to help the client achieve change. This book provides a detailed step-by-step guide for students to practice formulating case conceptualizations and treatment plans using a variety of popular theoretical models. Each chapter focuses on a specific theoretical approach. Within each chapter, the author provides client interviews and a sample case conceptualization followed by a treatment plan. Then the book presents another client interview and guides the student through the process of constructing a case formulation and treatment plan. This helps the student develop their plan in a guided, step-by-step process. Upon completion, the chapter contains thought questions to stimulate further critical thinking. This new edition will add chapters on new theories: 1) Narrative Therapy2) Feminist Therapy3) More on Postmodern TheoryIn addition, the book has updated its content on diversity and multicultural clients, and refreshes many of the case examples with new material. Instructor resources are avialable.
