Publisher Comments:

In these 20 heartfelt essays, Rachael Herron celebrated romance novelist by day, 911 dispatcher by night, and founder of the hugely popular blog Yarnagogo.com shows how when life unravels there s always a way to knit it back together again, many times into something even better. Honest, funny, and full of warmth, Herron s tales, each inspired by something she knit or something knit for her, will speak to anyone who has ever picked up a pair of needles. From her very first sweater (a hilarious disaster, to say the least) to the yellow afghan that caused a breakup (and, ultimately, a breakthrough), every piece has a moving story behind it. This beautifully crafted and candid collection is perfect for the knitter who loves to read and the reader who loves to knit.

Review:

"Novelist and blogger Herron isn't really old enough to write a memoir. But that doesn't stop her from sharing interesting, sometimes poignant, and often humorous scenes from her life in 20 essays organized around her life-long passion for knitting. Herron, who is young and attractive enough to sit in bars and knit socks without looking like a nut, turns in honest, well-considered appraisals of choices she's made, turns she's taken, and people she's known. It's a big year for Herron, whose A Cypress Hollow Yarn series (William Morrow) will hit its third installment in October with Wishes and Stitches. She also writes a popular knitting blog, but the essays here are deeper and more polished than pumped-up blog entries. And while the book has a hipster vibe, the personal truths and revelations mined are universal enough to resonate with all ages. For knitters, opening this book will be like curling up on a couch with a pair of needles, a ball of yarn, and a couple of cocktails with a good girlfriend-a guilt-free indulgence in the twin pleasures of friendship and handicrafts. What a lovely story. Rachel is the most fun author to read! You end up in love with her almost right away and you're fairly convinced she's a friend by the time you finish the book. She is engaging, funny, honest, and has done a beautiful job of framing the interesting points of the story without losing the subtlety.

I enjoyed reading this book because I liked hearing about knitted pieces being used in everyday life. It reminded me how practical and essential this craft is. I knit everyday and I too find comfort with each stitch. This book is a quick read that sheds light on one knitters journey through a life that has been strung together with yarn
