Publisher Comments:

Legendary trainer Tim Grover uses his experience with the world’s top athletes to drill down into the killer instinct that separates the good from the great, showing you how to tap into the dark side of competitive intensity in order to win—regardless of the circumstance or cost.

Direct, blunt, and brutally honest, Relentless goes to the “dark side” of competitive intensity and killer instinct, that intangible zone where good becomes great, daring you to admit what’s stopping you from succeeding, and forcing you to see that to be the best, you have to keep getting better, never stop working and improving, and never accept being “good enough.”

Over the past two decades, Tim Grover has trained more than 100 championship athletes from all the major professional sports, including Hall of Famers Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey Jr., and many others. Now Tim Grover will finally reveal how the best athletes in the world harness their fears and instincts to achieve unstoppable greatness.

Relentless offers you the secret sauce; Grover describes how to tap into this “dark side,” an intense quality that exists in all of us and has applications in all aspects of life—from fitness to business, from work to school. The appealing part of the promise is that it’s not about some magic diet or pill or squat pattern you do to become better. So much out there tells you how to change by looking for external solution. Tim contends that everything you need is already in you. He shows you how to find it, tap into it, and use it to achieve true greatness.

Review:

"Grover ( Jump Attack) spends half of his second book making a sales pitch for his sports-performance training services (at Attack Athletics in Chicago), and the other half lamenting the fact that most people are little more than slackers. The book is written in an unremittingly abrasive style ('When people rip me for being an asshole... it means I'm on a level they can't attain') that's bound to irk some as much as it inspires others. Grover explains the differences between three types of individuals — 'Coolers, Closers, and Cleaners' — whose competitive focus and passion are, respectively, good, great, and unstoppable. A Cleaner is 'the most intense and driven competitor imaginable,' someone whose ultimate success comes from tapping into his or her 'dark side' and acting on instinct. Grover builds the book around 'the Relentless 13,' a baker's dozen of Cleaner characteristics that can be applied both on and off the field; they include attacking opponents' weaknesses, being feared more than liked, and never recognizing failure. He must know what he's talking about — Grover is, after all, Michael Jordan's personal trainer, and he served as the director of sports performance for the United States' 2012 Olympic basketball team — but his approach is truly, relentlessly irritating. Synopsis:

FOR MORE THAN TWO DECADES, LEGENDARY TRAINER TIM GROVER HAS TAKEN THE GREATS—MICHAEL JORDAN, KOBE BRYANT, DWYANE WADE, AND DOZENS MORE—AND MADE THEM GREATER. NOW, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, HE REVEALSWHAT IT TAKES TO GET THOSE RESULTS,SHOWING YOU HOW TO BE RELENTLESS ANDACHIEVE WHATEVER YOU DESIRE.

DIRECT, BLUNT, AND BRUTALLY HONEST, Grover breaks down what it takes to be unstoppable: you keep going when everyone else is giving up, you thrive under pressure, you never let your emotions make you weak. In “The Relentless 13,” he details the essential traits shared by the most intense competitors and achievers in sports, business, and all walks of life. Relentless shows you how to trust your instincts and get in the Zone; how to control and adapt to any situation; how to find your opponent’s weakness and attack. Grover gives you the same advice he gives his world-class clients—“don’t think”—and shows you that anything is possible. Packed with previously untold stories and unparalleled insight into the psyches of the most successful and accomplished athletes of our time, Relentless shows you how even the best get better . . . and how you can too.
