About the Author

José Barreiro, Ph.D., senior editorial advisor to Indian Country Today, is one of the nation's leading scholars in American Indian policy, journalism, and publishing. For 18 years, his dedicated efforts helped forge the American Indian Program at Cornell University, where he served as associate director and editor-in-chief of Akwe:kon Press and its journal, Native Americas. Tim Johnson, executive editor of Indian Country Today, is a communications manager and strategist who has launched or remodeled three of the leading and most influential American Indian publications in the country. For more than 20 years, he has written, edited, and published extensively on a range of American Indian issues.
