Leo Africanus Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Exile and pilgrimage, the power of sexual love and family bonds, the savagery of war, and the profundity of religious passions are masterfully evoked in this tale of one man's journey, set against the splendor of the Renaissance and the vast tapestry of Muslim and Christian empires.

Synopsis:

Leo Africanus is a beautiful book of tales about people who are forced to accept choices made for them by someone else...It relates, particularly at times and often imaginatively, the story of those who did not make it to the New World. --New York Times Book Review

This is a magnificent book and a profound achievement. Maalouf breathes great life into the legendary traveller Leo Africanus while maintaining historical accuracy within the realm of historical fiction. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys reading travel literature or tales of exploration.

I read the French version when I was 20 and re-read it in English at age 30, I will make sure that my un-born son read it at age 10.
Best of love.
