You possess the ability to tap a bottomless well of physical and psychic energy (called chi in Chinese). With it you can harness the magickal power of the universe. How do you do it? By learning the ancient Chinese art of breath, posture, and sensory awareness as explained in Chi Gung by L. V. Carnie. As you learn this system to direct your flow of chi, you will be able to achieve ultimate health and things you have only dreamed of: --Look and feel younger --Add healthy years to your life --Progress faster in martial arts training --Develop different types of psychic ability: heal at a distance, talk with spirits, move objects with your mind --Increase your fitness level --Help damaged tissue heal more quickly --Improve sexual performance --Learn to control your body temperature --Bond with your pets or with animals in the wild Chi Gung is filled with simple but effective exercises for mind, body, and spirit that will open your flow of chi as they open you to a whole new world of possibilities. No other chi gung self help book covers such a broad range of material or presents the actual training techniques for mastering the more advanced skills. The exercises include simple stretches and slow movements with creative visualization and breathwork. One technique that is fully explained is called the small circulation, or the microcosmic cycle. It will teach you to circulate your chi around your body and head without having it enter your arms or legs. Another technique, the grand circulation or heavenly cycle, teaches you to move chi throughout your entire body. It's not difficult, and you can do it no matter your current level of health or fitness. The powerful techniques here can be used alone or within any spiritual or magical system. Add them to what you are doing today

Lily of the Valley Carnie has written a very cool book on Chi Gung. I felt she does an excellent job explaining the differences between building Chi using Wai Dan training (which focuses on muscular effort and movement) and Nei Dan training (which uses mental focus and sensory awareness). I also liked the way her book takes different areas of practice like Physical, Mental, Emotional, or Sensory and explores ways to include Chi awareness in those areas. I found it very helpful to have a variety of examples on how to bring Chi Gung into your life.

I really connected to Lily Carnie's book on the art of Chi Gung. The gorgeous cover with pine trees silhouetted against a purple/orange sunset gives you a glimpse of the beauty and soul within.

She does a great job covering the regulations of mind, body and breath that are needed to do Chi Gung well. I also like that she includes a number of exercises that provide experience in learning to feel how the Chi flows within your own body.

Ultimately though, I enjoyed the way Ms Carnie writes like she's talking directly to you. She shares her stories with you like you're having a coffeehouse chat on a lazy summer evening and I found that many of her experiences remind me of the wonder and delight I feel when standing outside at night and looking up into a sky full of stars.

Engaging, fun and informative. You can't ask for more in a book.

I enjoy learning about alternative approaches to health and healing. I've recently been exploring Traditional Chinese Medicine and its practice of energy work known as Chi Gung (also called QiGong ). My wanderings eventually led me to Lily Carnie's wonderful guidebook. She provides a good overview of the components of Chi Gung covering topics like the way Chi flows through the body's meridians. However, I particularly like the way the she describes how to practice Chi Gung during activities like candle meditation or playing a musical instrument. It's quite an eclectic and innovative approach that does a great job making the practice enjoyable and engaging to people like me who were raised in a Western culture and have an curiosity about Eastern healing practices.
