About the Author
Michael Backes is head of research and development for Abatin Wellness Center, a medical cannabis dispensary and research center in Sacramento, California. He is currently working with the State of California to help develop legislation to clarify the state's medical marijuana laws. Prior to Abatin, Backes founded Cornerstone Research Collective, the first science-based medical cannabis collective in California. Michael Backes is active with Project CBD, a non-profit educational service dedicated to promoting and publicizing research into the medical utility of cannabidiol (a cannabis molecule), and the International Association for Cannabinoid Medicines. Backes is consulting to the American Herbal Pharmacopeia on the first scientific monograph on cannabis to be published in the United States since the 1940s. He was part of the National Cannabis Industry Association's first lobbying day on Capitol Hill in 2011 that met with congressional members. He lives in Sacramento, California.
