Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

What would you do for a second chance at your first love?

At 38, Louise Harrington still hasn't forgotten Scott Feinstadt, the boy who broke her 18-year-old heart and then died tragically in a car crash. Two decades later, when his 24-year-old doppelganger, the irresistible F. Scott Feinstadt, walks into her life, Louise might not know what to think, but at least this time around she knows what she's doing.

Now a major motion picture from Newmarket Films, directed by Dylan Kidd (Roger Dodger) and starring Laura Linney (Kinsey), Topher Grace (That '70s Show), Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects), and Marcia Gay Harden (Mystic River).

Review:

"[A] wacky, high-spirited romp....Schulman has created a winning character in Louise....Schulman's delightful, piquant tale gives a clever, unusual account of how its protagonist learns to let go of the past." Publishers Weekly

Review:

"[A]n entertaining and unlikely love story." Booklist

Review:

"Dark, funny, and sexy...an all-too-knowing excavation of our deepest desires that's both a turn-on and a page-turner." Vanity Fair

Review:

"Schulman has an agreeable, funny, easy style." The New York Times Book Review

Review:

"Schulman's darkly comedic portrait of searching for romance in a city of jaundiced skeptics is appealingly sharp-tongued." The New Yorker

Review:

"The back-from-the-dead premise is such a stretch, and Louise is so whining, wheedling, groveling, and desperately seeking that — in her own description — she lacks dignity. Which goes to the heart of why it's so hard to like her." Kirkus Reviews

Review:

"P.S. is a smart and sexy romp." GQ

Review:

"A rollicking, entertaining romance." The Washington Post

Review:

"Hilarious and dazzlingly hip." Glamour

Review:

"Though P.S. offers one too many earth-shattering revelations about the past, Schulman uses the intricate friendship between Missy and Louise to show how some women use men not to complete themselves, but to compete with each other. (Grade: B+)" Entertainment Weekly

Synopsis:

Now in paperback — the acclaimed novel from the author of Out Of Time and The Revisionist about first love and second chances, making for an unexpected romantic adventure. Now a major motion picture starring Laura Linney (Mystic River) and Topher Grace (That '70s Show).

Synopsis:

What do you do when the fantasy of reuniting with your first love comes true? Especially when he died in a car crash twenty years earlier...

Louise Harrington pines for her youth as she looks out her office window at the quad. Her ten-year marriage ended four years ago, for reasons she has yet to fathom. At thirty-eight she is as confused about the men in her life as she ever was at seventeen. So when the double of her high school sweetheart appears in her life, she can not tell if she has gone mad, if this is a joke or some kind of miracle. When her best friend Missy gets involved (it has taken Louise years to forgive her for stealing him the first time) history begins to repeat itself as Louise tries to make sense of the crazy and mysterious turn her life has taken.

P.S. is a beautifully written, witty, and profound examination of desire, at once deeply affecting and knowingly humorous about affairs of the heart. Schulman has written a love story, a mystery, a nostalgic romp for anyone who's ever been in and out of love.
