The Clearest Codes Book Ever

What is the proper clearance for an egress window? Does flexible duct have to be supported every four feet or five? Can vent pipe terminations be located near operable doors and windows? The difference between a code-compliant fixture and an egregious violation is often closer than you think. You may have friends, family, or neighbors who claim complete code knowledge, but how can you be sure? Is it worth taking their advice against future violations, fees, and fixes? Codes for Homeowners is here to help. Current through 2014, you’ll find the answers you need in this updated edition. Through clear, explicit instructions, and detailed charts and diagrams, codes for electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building are easily seen and understood. You don’t need to be an expert to assess your house’s codes—you just need the right guide.

THIS BOOK INCLUDES
  • Electrical Codes
  • Mechanical Codes
  • Plumbing Codes
  • Building Codes
  • Updated through 2014

Synopsis:

A clear, photographic guide to the building, wiring and plumbing codes that actually matter to single-family homeowners.

Synopsis:

Codes are a fact of life for do-it-yourselfers, but getting good information on codes can be a nightmare. Anyone who has ever opened a code book (or even a code interpretation book) looking for the answer to a building, wiring or plumbing question has found the same thing: a lot of arcane, technical words and cross-referencing, pages of intricate charts and tables, but no information that makes sense. Codes for Homeowners combines decades of experience by author and IRC-certified home inspector Bruce Barker with Creative Publishing's famous studio photography, and the result is the first truly clear and easy-to-use codes reference book for homeowners and tradesmen alike. This new second edition is current with national codes for 2012-2014.

Synopsis:

A graphic, highly user-friendly guide to national codes for residential construction. Codes for Homeowners uses clear photographs to show exactly how the parts of your house are supposed to look once the work is done. Written by International Residential Codes-certified home inspector Bruce Barker, this second edition of Codes for Homeowners is current with most national codes in force for the period of 2012 through 2014. Based on his decades of experience, Inspector Bruce has winnowed down the massive heap of codes in force to only those that a single-family homeowner is likely to encounter. Building codes, electrical codes, plumbing codes and mechanical (HVAC) codes are shown and described in everyday language. The 2nd edition includes all of the great information in the first version but is updated to reflect any changes in the codes in force, including the National Electrical Code, the Universal Plumbing Code and the International Residential Code.
