Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Master the craft of glass art in your own home studio!

The Glass Artist’s Studio Handbook is a robust review of three popular glass art styles—stained glass, fusing, and lampworking—that brings learning new skills and making glass art within everyone’s reach. With the right tools, classic techniques, and several “teaching projects,” you will soon be making beautiful glass art at home.

Artist Cecilia Cohen walks you through planning your work space, selecting tools and materials, mastering basic glasswork techniques, and applying your new skills to original pieces. In addition, The Glass Artist’s Studio Handbook encourages good organization, unique and inspired design, and eco-friendly practices, ensuring it will remain an invaluable resource for artists.

The Glass Artist’s Studio Handbook:

- Invites you into the studios of 18 glass artists from around the world

- Teaches fundamental glass-art techniques—cutting glass, soldering, flameworking, kilnwork, and more—in full-color photographs

- Illustrates the steps for crafting beautiful pieces of glass art, including suncatchers, jewelry, boxes, beads, and a kaleidoscope

Whether you are new to the art and want to set up your first studio and learn the basics, or an experienced artist looking to expand your repertoire and stimulate your creativity with advanced projects, The Glass Artist’s Studio Handbook is for you.

Synopsis:

The Glass Artist's Studio Handbook offers readers a comprehensive and accessible guide to not only the nuts and bolts of this perennially popular craft but insight into the artisan crafter's lifestyle.

Synopsis:

The Glass Artist's Studio Handbook offers readers a comprehensive and accessible guide to not only the nuts and bolts of this perennially popular craft but insight into the artisan crafter's lifestyle. Our book offers much, much more than “just projects” – it will fast become the go-to reference for all home crafters.

Many glass art how-to books on the market provide precise patterns and instructions for projects that are fairly traditional in technique, materials and style. Completing a project from those books leaves you with a piece that is ideally identical to what the author created – and to what every other student using the book created. Many books are strong in the basics but do not do enough to challenge us to stretch our imagination, experiment with new styles, and explore materials. Readers want creative challenge and stimulation, and Quarry delivers with this complete glass art curriculum.

About the Author

Cecilia Cohen is an eclectic artist who is currently a full-time glass artist; her studio is appropriately named Glass & Light, Israel. She sells her art through her studio, on www.Etsy.com and several other sites, and in art fairs. She also produces special-order stained glass and fused glass pieces including windows for homes, businesses, and synagogues. She teaches glass art workshops in her home studio and is a stained-glass course instructor at a private women's college in Jerusalem. When she is not working with glass, she knits, writes, creates miniature macrame hangings and paper cut decorations, sews and bakes bread, makes jewelry, manages her many websites and works a few hours every week her community's librarian. Cecilia lives with her family in a magical place: Livna, a town of fewer than 500 people tucked into the Yatir forest in the south of Israel. She welcomes visitors to her studio and website, http://www.glassandlight.blogspot.com/
