I am one of the alleged "embattled" Fryeburg Maine citizens portrayed as a victim in Royte's book. After long conversations with Elizabeth seeking to inform her about town citizen initiatives to assure that the Poland Spring water extraction was not harming the aquifer or downstream environments (it is not, by any objective scientific calculation), she bowed to the classic emotionally charged interest group drama, and not so subtly characterized those of us seeking a balanced view as collaborators with the evil multinational corporation. Not quarreling with her right to question aspects of bottled water use, but seriously challenging her calculated slanted presentation of others motivations and concerns.
