"Bonair-Agard's lyricism is sharpened by a deep sense of politics, a profoundly muscular intelligence, and a sensuality that can be wholly and beautifully dangerous."—Kwame Dawes

I am a black poet—plain and simple / black first. I do not know / if I am a poet before I am a man / or a man before I am a poet. / I come from a people who have / ways of telling such things. / I come from a people / whose history is inside history.

Roger Bonair-Agard is a Cave Canem fellow and author of Tarnish and Masquerade and Gully.

Synopsis:

A stirring meditation on violence, race, and the place in art at which they intersect, by poet Roger Bonair-Agard.

Synopsis:

Bury My Clothes is a meditation on violence, race, and the place in art at which they intersect. Art—specifically in oppressed communities—is about survival, Roger Bonair-Agard asserts, and establishing personhood in a world that says you have none. Through poetry, we transform both the world of art and the world itself.
