About the Author

BARNEY SIMON (1932–1995) was the legendary artistic director, writer, and co-creator of the Market Theatre in Johannesburg, South Africa, one of the most influential and distinguished theaters in South Africa and the world. Armed with little more than the conviction that culture can change society, the Market Theatre challenged the apartheid regime, and became recognized as one of the most influential, distinguished theaters in South Africa and beyond. The World in an Orange: Making Theater with Barney Simon, was published by Seven Stories in 2006.
